Ukrainian official claims Russia launches largest-ever electricity grid attack

Since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than two years ago, Russia conducted one of its largest missile and drone barrages on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight into Friday. This attack was carried out late into the night.

An attack that targeted power supplies in various towns and cities in Ukraine, including Kharkiv in the east, Odesa on the coast, and Kryvyi Rih in the center, was carried out, according to Ukrainian officials, and it affected at least ten of the country’s regions.

According to reports from a number of regional agencies, the attacks have caused well over one million households to be without electricity as of Friday morning. The only areas that were spared were Kyiv and the northwest of the country.

Following the recent attacks that were carried out on Russian soil, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had “launched a massive strike” on the “military-industrial complex” associated with Ukraine. Belgorod and Kursk, which are located on Russia’s border, have been targeted by the Ukrainian military and pro-Ukrainian groups of Russian fighters this month. As a result, schools have been forced to close and citizens have been forced to abandon their homes.

As stated by the ministry, “the massive strike has been successful in accomplishing all of its objectives.” The largest hydroelectric power facility in Ukraine, which is located on the Dnipro river in the southern Zaporizhzhia area, was one of the primary objectives of the attack.
