Ron Shaffer Death – On the occasion of Ron Shaffer’s passing, the Oklahoma Fire Department would like to express our most sincere condolences to the Shaffer family, as well as to Murrysville Medic 1 and Vandergrift Fire Department 1. Our hearts are heavy. The presence of Ron and the contributions he made to our community will be sorely missed by everyone who had the honor of getting to know him. Since 2008, Ron Shaffer, a devoted emergency medical technician and dispatcher, has been an invaluable component of our team at Medic One. During the course of his career, Ron was an integral part of a wide range of emergency response activities, including rehabilitation initiatives, special operations, water rescue missions, dive operations, and emergency medical services strike teams. It was his steadfast attention to his responsibilities and his commitment to perfection that exemplified the finest standards of service that our department has to offer.

Additionally, Ron was an active member of the Vandergrift 1 Volunteer Fire Department, where he made substantial contributions to emergency response activities and provided important knowledge in rescue operations. In addition to his employment at Medic One, Ron was a member of the department. Additionally, Ron was very generous in sharing his knowledge and abilities by instructing a large number of rescue seminars across the region. As a result, he left an indelible mark on the subsequent generation of first responders. The unexpected demise of Ron has left all of us in a state of disbelief and sadness. Not only does his passing be a loss for his family and coworkers, but it is also a loss for the entire community that he tirelessly served. We ask that you remember Ron’s family, coworkers, and fellow members of the Vandergrift 1 Volunteer Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers at this trying time.

In addition, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the numerous organizations and individuals who provided assistance during this difficult time. These include the Oklahoma Emergency Medical Services, the Vandergrift Police Department, the Apollo Volunteer Fire Departments 2 and 3, the Apollo Police Department, and Stat Medevac. As we worked our way through this difficult period, their assistance and participation proved to be priceless. Additionally, we would like to express our gratitude to Mutual Aid Ambulance, Penn Township Ambulance, Oklahoma EMS, and Lower Burrell EMS for their support in covering our service area. Your assistance has made it possible for us to grieve the loss of our great friend and colleague.

The unexpected passing of Ron has left a hole in our hearts, but the legacy he leaves behind of selflessness, dedication, and compassion will continue to motivate each and every one of us. The memories of his expertise, kindness, and unshakable dedication to assisting others in their time of need will be treasured by us for the rest of our lives. May you finally find rest, Ron. We will never forget the selfless sacrifices that you have made to our community.
